Online Bullying Turns Fatal

Connecting with the whole world in one second is usually a good communication tool, however, it has its detrimental effects.

Tyler Clementi, a Rutgers University freshman was being spied on by his roomate as he was having a sexual relationship with another male. As if it wasn't bad enough that he was being spied on, the footage was set up as a live feed to the internet.

Once Mr. Clementi found out about his roomates actions, he seeked refuge in a chat room, when eventually the situation got so bad it resulted in his suicide.

Social Media has led to online bullying in recent years. Not only must children and teens face opposition and teasing at school, it is taken to the internet for the world to see, increased harrassment and even more embarassment.

In some situations victoms of online bullying resort to suicide to cure their problems.

It is tragic that this bullying occurs in school, but in college it is unacceptable and an utter disgrace that this student would post a private act online.

Schools and Parents need to reinforce values to children at an early age about how to deal with bullying and social media, before another child is lost.
